General Motors has announced that the all-new, ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu
will be unveiled to the world next month at the New York International Auto Show.

The next-gen vehicle will be more efficient, connected and roomier, says the company. Created from a “clean sheet” design, the new Malibu will utilize a brand new vehicle architecture which will extend the wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) another four inches over the current model. The additional length means occupants will enjoy a lot more rear legroom and interior space.

The new model also features a new, high-strength steel structure which will help reduce overall weight by 300lbs compared to the current car. This weight loss will improve both fuel efficiency and handling– you can’t argue with those kinds of improvements.

“Malibu’s gorgeous styling is the result of a masterful understanding of proportions,” said Ed Welburn, General Motors’ vice president of Global Design. “The roofline has been stretched rearward giving a more sleek profile, while the front wheels have moved forward and front and rear overhangs have been reduced. Along with the sculpted body side, these cues help Malibu appear more dynamic and sophisticated.”

Chevrolet will add more details each week as the show draws nearer. The new model is expected to go on sale by the end of 2015. Watch this space!
