Canadians will soon be able to get their hands on yet another Chevrolet powered by electricity, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV.

An all-electric vehicle with no gas tank, the new Spark is an EV in the purest sense of the word and it will sit alongside the Chevrolet Volt
and the incoming Chevrolet Bolt EV
as the third prong in Chevrolet’s EV strike.

The Spark EV has been available to fleet customers for the past two-years and now Chevrolet has finally decided to open up the Spark EV to the Canadian public.

“We’re expanding our electric vehicle offerings to our customers by offering the 2016 Spark EV for retail sales in the growing EV markets here in Quebec as well as in Ontario and BC,” said Chris Hay, regional director for Chevrolet.

Just like its gas powered sibling, the Spark EV minicar is all about fun and agility. It offers the latest tech, like in-car 4G Wi-Fi, and thanks to GM’s house-built motor and drive unit it delivers a mega 327lb-ft of instant torque, which means the little EV can scamper to 100km/h in a brisk 7.2 seconds.

The car features regenerative braking, which is stored in the 18.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and when fully charged it can travel up to 131km without stopping.

Three available levels of recharging capability include the industry’s first use of the recently approved SAE combo charger for DC fast charging, which charges 80 percent of the battery in just 20 minutes.

Pricing for 2016 Spark EV will be available at a later date.
