2014 Chevrolet Silverado
The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is finally (!) here and it’s thundering into dealer lots all around the country. As an all-new model, we wanted to share with a few of the reasons why we’re SOO excited about it. Bolder and badder with bigger engines, the new Silverado line is redefining the segment and proves you can have the best towing capacity, a bigger truck bed, stronger frame, and fuel-efficiency-all behind one bow-tie!
1) THE NEW ECOTEC3 ENGINE FAMILY – MORE POWERFUL, MORE EFFICENT
As the first truck to showcase GM’s all-new EcoTec3 engine family, the 2014 Silverado 1500 had to land a knockout-punch: The horsepower and torque to provide ample power in any situation, and the necessary fuel economy to prevent frequent stops at the pumps. Owners will find direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing beating at the heart of EVERY engine- helping to boost 2014 Silverado fuel economy. ““This is technology no other truck maker can match, and we offer it in every one of our EcoTec3 engines, for every one of our customers,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer and program manager. “It is not an extra cost feature. You get our best and most sophisticated technology regardless of trim level.”
Engine Displacement | Horsepower & Torque | Customer Benefits |
4.3L V-6 | 285hp & 305lb-ft | Most torque and highest towing rating of any standard V-6. Beats out Ram and F-150. |
5.3L V-8 | 355hp & 383lb-ft | Offers the best fuel economy of any V-8 pickup, and even beats fuel economy estimates for Ford EcoBoost V-6(!) |
6.2L V-8 | TBA- | Expected to be the most capable light-duty pickup available |
2) Revised Cargo Management
Arguably the biggest changes to the truck, which you may not see in the 2014 Silverado specs, can be found behind the driver in the new bed. Our personal favourite feature is the new CornerStep system. Now you’ll find steps integrated into the outside of the box corners, with textured pads for quick and easy grip. Along with CornerStep, you’ll notice loading and unloading is even easier thanks to integrated hand rails now built right into the box protectors. We also added four integrated tie-down hooks, to make sure all of your cargo stays in place. Plus, with available adjustable upper tie-downs rated at 250lbs each, all cargo is easily manageable. And, with the new bed able to accept more than four feet of loading space between the wheel houses, standard 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood can stack flatly on the box floor- In fact, there is a more than five feet of load space between the box walls! Have we mentioned the available 6’6” box, for even greater storage capacity?
3) Strong like Bull
The cab in the 2014 Chevy Silverado is both stronger and lighter, with nearly two-thirds of the structure is made from high-strength steel, for a confident feel and improved safety- this allows the 2014 Silverado to take the pounding of towing, year after year. Just as well, new body mounts tune out both up-and-down and side-to-side movement for a quieter, more comfortable ride. Plus, the strategic use of aluminum alloy in the engines, front suspension, hoods and other parts, help Silverado trim. Speaking of strong, no info on the 2014 Silverado hd has been released yet.
4) The best interior yet
The first time you open the door on the 2014 Silverado you’ll notice it: a brand new, fully revised interior. Not slightly different, not tweaked- an all new functional, rugged, and smart interior! You get multiple power and USB ports, an upright instrument panel, six-gauge instrument cluster and multiple, ample storage options- tailored specifically to the needs of truck customers! Meanwhile, all controls are functional, logically placed and easy to operate with work gloves on. We’ve also made the rear doors on crew cabs larger, for easier entry and exit, and the rear doors on double cab models are now hinged at the front for easier access, especially in tight spots.
5) Tow baby, tow
Of course, a truck can be amazing in every respect but if it can’t tow, what’s the point? Luckily our GM engineers made sure the 2014 Silverado is fully capable, right out of the box. Buyers who opt for the 4.3L V-6 will relish knowing they can tow up to 7,200 pounds, the highest for any pickup in the segment! Incidentally, Silverado’s equipped with the 5.3L V-8 and the max towing package (available later this year), will have towing ratings up to 11,500 pounds, more than ANY light-duty pickup currently on the market. We don’t know the capability of the 6.2L yet, but official figures should be released later in the summer.
6) Connect it all with MYLINK
Standard on nearly all 2014 Chevrolet Silverado’s is Chevrolet MyLink, powerful connectivity for work or family with simple, intuitive controls. MyLink is available with a 4.2-inch or an 8-inch colour touch-screen. The 4.2-inch radio, standard on 2WT and LT models, includes Bluetooth for phone streaming, two USB ports, an SD card slot and natural voice recognition. LTZ and High Country models receive an 8-inch high-definition touch screen that enables users to scroll or drag through menus. Simple to use, intuitive and eye-catching, MYLINK is the perfect command and connectivity centre.
7) PRICE – Never Better
Even with all of the improvements to the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, amazingly, the base prices for all three configurations of the 2014 Silverado 1500 – regular cab, double cab, and crew cab – carry over from 2013! Buyers of all 2014 Silverado 1500s also will receive a standard scheduled maintenance program for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.
