Canadians hoping to get their hands on the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu
will surely be pleased with its official starting price tag of $21,745 (plus $1,650 destination), which is $3,495 less than the base price of the outgoing model.

The new Malibu, which now sits on a new chassis that is both lighter and stiffer, is offered in five models–L, LS, LT, Hybrid
and Premier– and the base L model comes with loads of standard kit like ten airbags, push-button start, stop/start tech, cruise control and GM’s 160 hp 1.5L turbo I4 engine under the nose.

Step up to the LS, starting at $24,245, and you’ll find Chevrolet MyLink with a seven-inch touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
and a rear view camera. The LT model starts at $25,245 and comes loads of goodies like LED daytime running lamps and eight-way power front seats.

For $32,045 you can get into the Premier model, which can be optioned with a 2.0L Turbo I4 Ecotec engine with 250 hp and GM’s new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The new Malibu, like the new Chevrolet Cruze
and Camaro
, is far lighter than its predecessors (by nearly 300 lbs) and is now the lightest vehicle in the segment
– that’s a difference you’re sure to notice in the bends and at the pump
.

Pricing for the Malibu Hybrid pricing will be announced closer to the start of production at the GM Fairfax Assembly plant in spring 2016.
