2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Revealed!
We knew it would be only a matter of time before Chevrolet lifted the lid on the sleek, new 2016 Camaro. Now, less than three-months after it revealed the coupe to the world
, Chevrolet has officially introduced the all-new, 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. Like the 2016 Camaro coupe, Chevrolet pulled out all the spots for the new Camaro drop-top model.
As a matter of fact, it is the only convertible in the segment to offer all of the following:
- Fully automatic operation with latches that automatically open and seal shut
- The ability to open or close the convertible top at speeds of up to 48km/h
- Use of the key fob to open or close the top
- A hard tonneau cover that automatically opens or closes with the roof in order to better help wind buffeting and noise (thanks to automatic and acoustic thermal barriers) and provide a more coupe-like appearance.
“The 2016 Camaro coupe will set the benchmark for the segment in terms of technology, performance, and design,” said Shane Peever, Chevrolet brand manager for Canada. “Adding the most sophisticated top in the segment brings another level of refinement, and driving enjoyment, to the Camaro convertible.”
Like the 2016 Camaro coupe, the new convertible model benefits from a lighter structure which helps reduce its weight by more than 200 lbs over the last model.
The convertible, like the coupe, will also arrive with three engine choices and two transmission choices, for a total of six powertrain options. Buyers can opt for a 2.0L inline-four cylinder (275 hp), an all-new 3.6L V6 model (335 hp) or step up to a powerful 6.2L LT1 V8 (455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque). Best of all, buyers can choose pick either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic with any engine.
The 2016 Camaro will be produced at GM’s Lansing Grand River assembly plant in Michigan and will go on sale in Canada in early 2016.
